So, the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championship was held in Vegas from May 12 to May 22…

Tony played in the 9 Ball Challenge:

We played the Master Scotch Doubles Division together…

MSD… not a pleasant outcome. Don’t even think either of us had our minds in Vegas for our first match. Our second, our brains finally showed up and went hill-hill, but lost.

I played a couple of mini-tournaments, got second in one. Tony wasn’t allowed to play minis because he’s a Grand Master. This made Tony a cranky feller, he loves playing the mini-tournaments. All I’ve heard about Vegas Nationals for the past 7 years is about how smooth the tournament is run and how much fun ($$ making) the mini-tournaments are. Neither was shown to me! ‘Nuff said on that subject.

I went 2’n’Out in the Open Women’s Singles and played in the Second Chance Tournament… 1’n’Out in that. :) Played better and against a better player in the 2nd Chance than in the main event.

Tony had a tough draw for his first single’s match… He’s a Grand Master and that division allows Pros to play in it. Drew Shane VanBoening first and lost 4 – 7.

Next, he won against Richie Cunningham. It was a nail-biting hill-hill match, but Tony pulled it out.

He then lost to James Davis, Sr. I was unable to watch this match because I was playing my first match in another room.

OB Cues Mixed Open Teams was next up…

They fought hard and ended up in 97 – 125 place. Not bad, but they should have (and could have) done better. Should have won the thing, but that’s just my opinion. ;)

We did very little sight-seeing, but a LOT of walking. We stayed at Circus Circus across the street from the Riviera and that walk is longer than you think, especially when you go back and forth 100 times a day. But we had a blast, played some good pool and had fun with good friends!

Tony and his dad are off “on the road” playing pool… watch out north-western Texas and southern Oklahoma… not really sure where he’s at right now… actually, I do, but should I warn people *that* much? I think not. :)

In the past couple of months, I’ve been able to acquire a few books to help my pool game. Most of them are filled with diagrams and pool drills, so they aren’t “just sit and read” books… I would say they are more reference books. I have a new journal to use for pool… and one of these days I’ll remember to use it. :)

One is actually a tennis book, but our good friend Doug W. suggested it for both mine and Tony’s mental game. My intention is to review all of these books over on my website and open it up for comments to get other opinions on them…

Well, we had fun at Luke’s Ladies’ Only 9-Ball Tournament yesterday (Aug 16, 2009). Well, *I* had fun, I hope the other ladies did!

Again, we had only 8 players… but they were a different group than before except for me. I *let* Tony help me out and he called most of the matches and was an all around great helper… (which means he pretty much ran the tournament, not me)

And my youngest monkey came along and took a few pictures… or rather attempted to take pictures, most of them came out a bit blurry.

Luke's Sports Bar and Grill in Sherman, Texas will be holding another Ladies Only 9 Ball tournament on Sunday, August 16th 2009

$10 entry

-Sign up and practice starts at 2 pm
-Play starts at 3 pm
-True double elimination with races to 3 on both sides
-BCAPL rules
-Flip for 1st break - Winner breaks after
-Luke's will add $5 per entry to pot
-100% payout
-8 foot tables

We had 8 ladies show up last time and we had a blast! We are moving this to Sundays to give the ladies more time to play.

Yesterday, July 26th, the Eagles (FOE) in Paris, TX hosted a poker run, pool tournament, and auction to help offset medical bills and such for Tony’s father, Howard. The day looked like it started off slow because the pool players were the few people that were there early in the morning. Most of us drove in from Sherman. Well, there was a poker run. Where were all the people? On the poker run. duh.

The day was a GREAT success, Howard was tickled to death to see all his family and friends gather in his honor and to support him. The total for the day was over 6 grand.

We had 17 paid entries in the pool tournament, one was a “ghost player”, a person just wanted to donate the entry. I went 2 and out after drawing Doug Winnett as my opening match. I made 3 shots the whole match. And when I say I “made” 3 shots, I mean I made contact with the cue ball only 3 times. oh well. It was Doug and he was (and has been) playing really really great lately.

My second match, I should have won. But, as usual, somewhere right after I got into position to win, I just lost it. again. oh well. It was fun!

I then found out they were giving trophies for first and second. That’s one thing I’ve been telling Tony that I really wish I could do. Win a trophy. Guess who won first and second?

The first monthly Ladies Only 9-Ball Tournament at Luke’s (Sherman, TX) was held on June 26th had 8 players and lots of fun! 3 were local, Jerri & Heather (the owner) plus me... The other 5 were from DFW area. Lot of fun was had by all. Half way through the tournament, Doug (the other owner) added $10 per player instead of the $5 we originally posted.

7th/8th - Heather Wells / Ann Malone
5th/6th - Jerri Winnett / Sam Holliday
4th - Jana Preston
3rd - Sonja Boles $30
2nd - Sandra Adams $60
1st - Jennifer Sherman $70

Jennifer won the winner's bracket and her and Sandra split so they could all head back south. I had $80 to 1st, $50 to 2nd, but they decided how they wanted to split.

We will have one next month, I just need to see which day. I'll let ya'll know!!

Ladies Only Tournament!!

I’m VERY excited to pre-announce that Luke’s in Sherman, TX will begin having a Ladies Only tournament about once a month. Tony and Doug W. were talking about getting a Monday night 8-Ball tourny going, maybe even a Sunday afternoon tourny… and when we spoke with the other Doug (re: owner of Luke’s) he said he was all for it… if they could have a tournament every night of the the week, he’d love it.

So it came down to Tony and owner-Doug and I discussing it the other night, just bouncing ideas back and forth. Doug wants a Ladies Only tournament. I’m all for it! Apparently I’ll be running it with help from Tony. I’ve got to get the first date finalized before anymore info can be thrown out. Don’t want to get in the way of other tournaments…

I’m ready NOW!! I can’t get to the Houston OB Tour Stop… in fact, I can’t get to one until Waco, which is all the way in August. (plenty of time to practice!!)

More information when I get it!!

How amazing it is to see a whole pool room full of talented ladies playing pool!! This past weekend was the OB Cues Ladies’ 9-Ball Tour stop number 3 at The Billiard Den in Richardson Texas. Tony and I both went and had a blast. I played in both the main event and then the Second Chance tournament on Sunday. He played in a tournament for the regular Billiard Den customers (or the non-participants that were there, don’t know which) and then played some one-pocket on Sunday. Friday night, “V” and Monica took us out to eat at Babes. Yummy! The whole weekend was just awesome!!

I was able to attend because of a wonderful person, I would like to publicly thank Carter for his giant heart and love of pool!! There were 56 ladies gunning for the top spot. I, unfortunately, didn’t quite make it there… in fact, I went 2 and out.

But there was a second chance tournament on Sunday…

Alas… I once again went 2 and out. But it was a BLAST!! I will definitely be making at least one more stop this year. I was able to meet alot of the ladies this time, when I went last year, I was busy trying to keep up with everything and didn’t get the chance to mingle. This time, I mingled… and mingled well. :)

I have crappy cell phone pictures from this weekend's pool tournaments... they don't look too bad if you view them at a maximum height of 150. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Now I just need to get the crappy cell phone pics off of Tony’s cell… I have one that I texted to myself, the color looks a tad better than my crappy cell phone, but I seem to have a problem with shaky hands… here, you judge for yourself:

Just setting up this blog for Tony Sulsar. Should have info and updates on pool tournaments and other pool related activities in the North Texas area. This will also be a place for Tony to post his thoughts as he goes through his battle with colon cancer.
